Some of the greatest times spent on vacation are free. Enjoy these three adventures in Nassau without spending a dollar, yen or euro for admission!
Visit the Water Tower in Nassau, located off Prison Lane across from Fort Fincastle. This is the highest point in Nassau and offers the finest views of the island. To get to the Water Tower one may have to take a 15-20 minute taxi from the cruise ship. FYI: This experience is completely free, however at times an unofficial guide gives an excellent oration of the history of the Water Tower and he may request a tip.
The Queens staircase (known as 66 steps), located just below the Water Tower. This attraction shows off a visible 65 step stone stairway, one step for each year of Queen Victoria’s rule, and climbs up 102 feet to Fort Fincastle. At the bottom you’ll find concession stands where locals sell craft items and souvenirs. To get to the staircase one may have to take a 15-20 minute taxi from the cruise ship.
Fort Fincastle—Minutes away from the Water Tower and the Queen’s staircase, Fort Fincastle was built in 1793 by the Royal Governor Lord Dunsmore to protect the island from pirates. There is no charge for admission as you enjoy the amazing views!
